In 1977 the former Equitable Life Assurance Headquarters was converted and expanded to the Home Office Facilities of FNMA. The existing 100,000 square foot Williamsburg inspired Georgian-style facility was fully modernized and expanded to approximately 200,000 square feet. A three level parking structure and rooftop terrace and gardens were developed in harmony with existing formal gardens which were totally reconstructed and enlarged. More recently, a variety of ongoing design services ranging from architectural improvements to lighting plans have been required.  This heavily planted five acre facility located adjacent to Glover-Archibold Park provides a dominant landmark and visual resource to the surrounding upper Northwest Washington neighborhood.  In 1987, LAPIERRE STUDIO provided landscape design updates and lighting plans for the garden terrace.  In 1993 a 40,000 sf annex at 3939 Wisconsin Ave. was built with Ai/Boggs providing architectural design and LaPierre providing landscape design for parking, plaza and streetscape areas.  From 1976 - 79, while associated with EDAW, Mr. LaPierre was project landscape architect for the initial development program.  His responsibilities included building and roadway layout, design and construction supervision of roads, parking, garden and landscape restoration, and related site improvements such as landscape retaining walls and site drainage; he was responsible for design of special landscape features such as custom seating, fountains, planters and signage.
