Under the direction of the Pennsylvania Avenue Development Corporation, LAPIERRE STUDIO provided urban design and streetscape master planning services for several property owners along Indiana Avenue in Washington, D.C., a historic downtown mixed-use block which includes the last remaining original 19th c. retail block within the Pennsylvania Avenue Corridor. The block was redeveloped in coordination with other adjacent mixed-use and residential development, thus establishing a new downtown neighborhood known as Pennsylvania Quarter. Improvements included substantial roadway reconstruction/alignment, new streetscape trees, furnishings, plazas and terraces, including retention of historic monuments and pavings, and provisions for ADA accessibility to all spaces.
