KENNEDY-WARREN APARTMENTS   WASHINGTON, DC

The Kennedy-Warren is a designated historic building notable within Washington due to its unique Art Deco style. The original construction was initiated in 1928, but the project was never fully completed due to the ensuing depression of 1929. As a result the landscape plan was never implemented and a large parcel remains unbuilt. In response to current growing demand for luxury apartment residences, the original owner/developer commissioned the design of a new apartment wing, renovations to the historic building, and development of the entrance courtyard reflective of the original plans and responsive to contemporary needs for vehicular access and site security. Construction documents prepared by LaPierre include a realignment of the old drive to create a central courtyard and the addition of a deco-inspired mosaic-tiled fountain. The streetscape has also been updated with new plantings and paving, and roof terrace garden enclosures provide private outdoor spaces for residents and guests.
